In searching for the Chiesa della Santissima Trinità dei Pellegrini I did not take into consideration the village nature of Rome. Over and over we stepped through piazzas which always had a church (not a little ones either) and packed together houses of various heights but usually three or four stories. Cars might access these piazza but a motorbike would be more comfortable. All the streets were narrow by any standard except those of the middle ages. To walk down a narrow street was one way or another to come to another piazza with its own church, open cobblestone space, various multistoried houses, and sometimes an espresso bar or store. When the piazza was small the surrounding structures could have the appearance of being the outer walls of a smokestack. This one was small, and appeared smaller still as it was filled with cars & motorcycles I suppose because of the police station. It was its own universe inside the perimeter. I could not find the Chiesa della Santissima Trinità dei Pellegrini. It was important to find the Chiesa della Santissima Trinità dei Pellegrini as I had been left on the St. Peter’s side of the Tiber due to the quick pace required to reach this pizza in order to make mass. I walked through this piazza three times before I realized I had hit the mark. There are no signs in Italian, English or Latin to provide the security of knowing one had reached the appointed. The Hat was inside the Chiesa della Santissima Trinità dei Pellegrini. The Polizia station directly across the piazza provided little of the comfort that seeing Louisiana Long strolling up the narrow street projected. Seeing Alex walking into the piazza having obviously found a supply of cigarettes, and no doubt an espresso was a great relief.
