Spring Trip in Michigan's Up North
Canoe Launch - Jordan River
Roger Stow, my neighbor in East Lansing, pretty much forced me to learn to bow cast, fish for trout, meet a cadre of very exceptional people who also fished for trout, and to fall in love with the rivers and streams of Northern Michigan. He also gave me the gift of sharing over time that love with my brother, my sons, and an amazing number of my nephews. Not bad for a 5th Grade Teacher in the Mason Public Schools.
COVID-19 has canceled the 2020 Spring Trip. Spring Trip was always scheduled the weekend between Mother's Day and Memorial Day. As time went on and I became the scheduler of the trip and very undesirous of camping in the sleet, snow, or rain falling (often all three at once) during a not atypical up north Michigan May)---we moved the trip into June.
Mike Hunter is one of two surviving original participants. I heard other names around the campfire over the years, but this is the list as I know it: Bob Hunter, Dave Kazen, Roger Stow, Jim Brown, and Mike Hunter.
With the 2020 cancelation, Mike Hunter suggested that we create a visual record of the spring trips that any of the participants since and before 1989 might want to share. I'd like to add to that suggestion with stories written or oral count too. So we'll see hope it goes. I'll post them as they are sent to me on this page.

Good morning Joe,
Good move to cancel. I have a suggestion for another good move. What do you think of having flashback trips to the many trips the “Group” has had over the past five decades? No one of us has been on all of these trips. I’m sure that there some trips for which there are no photos.
I remember your first trip with the Group. We went my Uncle Olie’s cabin on the Little Manistee, 1989 as I recall.
Mike
