This was a wonderful image that I was asked by a client to convert from the original color version into black & white.
Then I printed it on a canvas and stretched making it ready for display.
Twenty Tintypes
One of my clients was working her way through family photographs & history to make both the visual & genealogical history available for her children & grandchildren. She ran across a package of tissue wrapped tintypes in her mother's box. She does not know who the pictured people are or even if they are related. She asked me if I wanted the tintypes. I most definitely did!
I will leave the reader to Wikipedia for a technical explanation of what a tintype is, but to briefly summarize: they were big in the 1850s through the 1860s and survived as a commercial technique used into the 20th century.
I immediately started restoring them primarily because I love how they grab hold of the world with their visual intensity and stern expressions that only the babies ignore and blur with their wiggles. The subjects always stare directly into the camera. The gallery below is the result of this work.

The client required a unique result, which was to turn the completed restoration into a jigsaw puzzle. With the result below.
This was a hand painted photograph that suffered water damage. It was an interesting restoration project. The original was 16" x 24"
The Plant Professionals provides plants and bunting for some pretty large stages! Kathy Valentine asked me to restore this 20 x 34" image of the Michigan State University graduation when President Bill Clinton provided the speech. Due to the intense stage lighting, the large trees provided by The Plant Professionals had disappeared in the original. I was able to bring out the trees and the GREEN & WHITE where it too had faded.

This is a restoration I completed for a customer. With her permission, it is being offered for sale in the form of prints from Fine Art America. The original panorama was approximately 29 inches long and 12 inches tall. It had been rolled and was cracked and brittle.

Customers often have multiple images for me to restore. Some have many. One of issues that arises is what to do with the results. Below is an option for displaying many images in a limited space. This image for Mark Tallis of Tallis & Associates was designed and then printed on a 20 x 30 canvas.
Customers often have multiple images for me to restore. Some have many. One of the issues that arises is what to do with the results. These two layouts were made for Joe Gradwohl "The Doctor of Clean". He opted to display many images from two important events in his life in a limited space. The first image was designed and then printed on a 20 x 30 canvas and the second on a 16 x 24 canvas.
Mike Vitale asked me to make this restoration & print for him.
The images below are of Tom Hacker's great-great grandfather which he had me restore & colorize. Tom had the framing done. Tom did some research at the Library of Michigan and found out his name was Edward & he was a farmer.

The following three restorations were done for Mark Palmer the owner of AW Body shop in Lansing. These are special cars as they were long ago 'restored' by Mark's father. Mark wanted them framed as they are in a display case in AW's lobby. Drop by and take a look. Tyler or Will -- Mark's sons -- probably will offer you a cup of coffee just for coming by AW Body Shop.Who knows you might need a free estimate on body work your car desperately needs. The three of them are some of the nicest people you'll ever meet. They also do great work & provide excellent service.

The gold stripes on the boy's shirt needed to particular color.
This one had heavy water damage & was stuck to the glass.
It was lots of fun, really!
I would be honored if you shared my grandfather's train photo on your web. The photo is of steam engines used on what they called "drag lines" which carried rail cars from the main lines to the various industrial sites in Detroit. Photo was probably taken in around 1928-29. My grandfather is Reginald Hoskin and he is in the engineer in the first train on the right. - Jayne Berry

Debbie Schankler had a plan! After I restored each image they had to be printed to specification so they could easily be housed in an appropriate frame. Here are the results from her framing work.
